Our popular (15+ members) Monday after-school chess club returns for a 4th straight year to help your kids sharpen their critical thinking skills, and have fun with friends and classmates in a competitive, nurturing environment!

Our curriculum (with suggested homework) develops over-the-board skills, as well as strategic problem-solving, concentration, and resilience.

Led by enthusiastic, professional adult coaches, our classes will challenge students of all skill levels, including:

• Experienced US Chess Federation-rated tournament competitors

• Online chess enthusiasts ready to compete over the board

• Beginners learning the game for the first time

We also hold tournaments where members can win trophies and earn and boost their USCF ratings, as well as play kid-pleasing chess variants like bughouse and blitz.

Students can register for the fall session, the full year, or parts of the fall or spring sessions as their schedules dictate. We also provide makeup classes at several convenient Tri-Valley locations.

Whether your child is new to chess or already winning trophies, our club provides a welcoming environment where every student can learn, improve, and have fun.

About Us

Emerald Hills Chess is a Dublin-based nonprofit whose co-founders have nearly 20 years of combined experience teaching and promoting chess. We serve more than 300 students through 15+ after-school chess clubs and tournament training programs across the Tri-Valley.

Our original club, Fallon Middle School Chess, has won numerous team championships, including the 2023 National Online Championship, produced 7+ nationally age-ranked players, and has been recognized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for excellence in chess education.

We also hold popular (150-200 players) monthly USCF-rated tournaments for youth and adults of all levels, as well as a weekly free chess clubwhere adults and youth (10+) can enjoy friendly games and improve their skills.

Fall Session

• Dates: Aug 24 - Dec 21 (exact dates listed below)

• 15 classes: $300 (trial classes and pro-rated discounts for mid-session registrations; sibling discounts also available - email us if any questions)

• $20 early bird discount by Aug 15th

Spring Session

• Dates: Jan 25 - May 17

• 14 classes: $280 (same discounts as above)

• $20 early bird discount by Dec 15th
