We bring our 11+ years of award-winning experience teaching youth chess to our first class targeted at adults!

This class is targeted at:

- Beginners (know how pieces move) looking to add tactics and strategies

- Enthusiastic online competitors (max 1200 rating on Chess.com/LiChess) looking to augment their skills

- Chess parents looking to keep up with fast-rising kids and share their improvment journey

- Returning tournament players rated under USCF 1000

Besides giving you a foundation on the most-common tactics and more advanced positional strategies, you’ll also learn practical advice on how to manage your time in blitz and rapid games, tips for avoiding blunders (and inducing them in opponents), psychological tips for winning chess, and more! We'll play practice games with 1:1 analysis by the coaches. And we will also provide optional homework and online self-study links that accelerate your improvement.

Then stay and practice your new skills at our popular Thursday night chess club, where we hold free-to-enter casual tournaments offering gift card prizes.

About Us

Emerald Hills Chess is a Dublin-based nonprofit whose co-founders have nearly 20 years of combined experience teaching and promoting chess. We serve more than 300 students through 15+ after-school chess clubs and tournament training programs across the Tri-Valley.

Our original club, Fallon Middle School Chess, has won numerous team championships, including the 2023 National Online Championship, produced 7+ nationally age-ranked players, and has been recognized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for excellence in chess education.

We also hold popular (150-200 players) monthly USCF-rated tournaments for youth and adults of all levels, as well as a weekly free chess club where adults and youth (10+) can enjoy friendly games and improve their skills.
